Assistant Director, Desktop Management & Outbound Support
Ted always goes out of his way to help children who are battling cancer or facing other challenging circumstances, and did so most recently with his “Caring for Christmas” initiative. Using Facebook and his extensive network of friends and colleagues, Ted collected presents and cash contributions to buy gifts, ensuring that sick and/or needy children and their families had happy holidays. In all, he distributed presents to 37 children, many of them in Preston County. The donations Ted received also included roughly 200 brand-new Beanie Babies, which he delivered after the holidays WVU Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald house.
“Caring for Christmas” began when Ted learned about a Preston County child with cancer. A Dominion Post newspaper reporter who learned about Ted’s activities through social media then wrote a story about how Ted has turned great personal loss into generosity instead of bitterness. He lost both his mother and his 7-year-old daughter to cancer, then survived his own bout with cancer, only to lose his 15-year-old son in tragic accident. Ted’s devotion to his own children lives on through the work he does with other children today.
